The Phoenix Partnership was awarded the prestigious PRISM Gold Award in the Crisis Management Practice category with our longstanding client, the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT), in recognition for the fast development and execution of a unique communications campaign in support of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, the world’s largest timed cycling event. Fires had raged through sections of the 109km course, which resulted in organisers having to announce a drastically shortened 47km circular route just four days before the event. The Phoenix Partnership deployed a strategic crisis communications campaign, the “#showyoucaresolidarityride”, to inform all stakeholders of the abbreviated route, using this to raise support for the fire fighters. An overwhelmingly positive response was achieved and 35,000 participants lined up on the start line to salute the heroic fire fighters, ensuring that Cape Town Cycle Tour 2015 remained the world’s largest timed cycling event.
